Park
County is approximately 45 miles wide and 60 miles long. There
is more territory above 9,000 feet than any other county in Colorado.
51% of Park county is Federal Lands, including 644,000 acres of Pike
National Forest, the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Area, and the Lost
Creek Wilderness Area. There are seven mountain ranges that ring
South Park. Park County has five water storage reservoirs and Jefferson
Lake. There are dozens of headwater lakes and streams and hundreds
of historic structures.
Park County and the
adjacent area provides a wealth of well developed recreational opportunities.
Here is the short list: jeep trails, motorcycle on/off road, camping,
hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, horseback
riding, boating, sailing, wind surfing, fishing, downhill skiing, X-C
skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hunting, scenic auto tours, and
historic site exploration.
Of course, there
is nature and wildlife viewing. South Park is home to deer, elk, bobcat,
mountain lion, black bear, badgers, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, pronghorn
antelope, beaver, raccoon, coyotes, and about 15,000 people.
Summit county is
a world premier winter playground. The county line is just 35 miles
from camp. world class downhill skiing, nordic ski centers, back country
X-C skiing, powder snowmobiling, ice skating, and tubing. If snow is
not your thing, Summit county offers summer hiking, biking, canoeing,
kayaking, golfing, and of course, shopping!
This is Four-wheel
country. Numerous jeep trails are located within an easy drive of Camp
Como. Mosquito Pass, Georgia Pass, Red Cone, Weston Pass, and the list
goes on.
Fly fishing is popular
in our area, but anglers of all disciplines enjoy the lake and stream
fishing.
Chaffee County is
about 45 minutes from camp. Chaffee County contains the heart of the
Sawatch Mountain Range with views of majestic 14,000 foot peaks as
far as you can see. This place has it all. Hike up Mount Princeton
and on the way down relax in a river pool at the Mt. Princeton Hot
Springs. Raft down the Arkansas River and through Browns Canyon, with
any number of Rafting Outfitters like Noah's Ark. Hike or ride miles
of trails on your mountain bike or off-road vehicle. |
